For Immediate Release:
Modular Devices, Inc. (MDI) introduces the
model 53600 family of 30 watt, radiation hardened, triple output DC/DC converters. These units
incorporate MDI’s 100K+® proton Rad hard technology, a US and international patents pending
circuit design that offers total ionizing dose performance of greater than 100Krads at 2:1 margin
and no Single Event Upset effect to LET levels in excess of 82MeV*cm2/mg without the
use of expensive, long lead, sole source, export controlled (ITAR) components.
The 53600 modules are high efficiency
DC/DC converters operating from an 19 to 50 VDC input bus voltage, intended for use in powering
analog and digital loads in radiation environment applications such as spacecraft and satellites.
Two different standard types are available.
Models 53600-T12 and 53600-T15 deliver the main output at +5 VDC and auxiliary outputs of ±12 VDC
or ±15 VDC. The same auxiliary outputs are available with a 3.3 VDC main output. All models
incorporate a built-in input EMI filter conforming to MIL-STD-461C and operate over the full temperature
range of -55C to +125C without derating. Custom versions are available.
Module dimensions are 2.2" by 2.7"
by 0.500" (60 X 68.5 X 12.7mm) including rugged six point mounting flange and weigh 119 grams.
Housings are full hermetic, parallel seam welded packages.
MDI’s proprietary circuit design achieves
better than 83% efficiency by using a planar power transformer operating at a fixed frequency of 250 kHz
and synchronous output GaAs rectification. "Sync Input" as well as "Sync Output" is provided so multiple
modules may be synchronized together. The modules can also be paralleled for higher output currents or
redundancy and are overload protected and short circuit proof. Inhibit not (enable/disable) and built in test (BIT) functions are standard design
features.
The price of an engineering grade 53600
converter is $ 3100 each in small quantity. Flight units are priced according to screening level.
Delivery is stock to 150 days ARO. MDI also fabricates assemblies of modules to customer specifications.
